As the superyacht industry gathers for Monaco Yacht Show 2015, world-leading marine exhaust system supplier Halyard and marine exhaust aftertreatment specialist Emigreen B.V. announce plans to collaborate on integrated selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and diesel particulate filtration (DPF) solutions.
By combining their areas of expertise, the companies will be able to improve the design and delivery of integrated exhaust system and aftertreatment solutions. The systems will minimise the environmental impact of boating pollution and ensure compliance with increasingly stringent regulations.
The announcement comes ahead of new stricter International Maritime Organisation TIER III regulations on nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The regulations affect superyachts above 24m, built after 1 January 2016, with engine power in excess of 130 kW sailing in NOx emission control areas, currently the US coast and Caribbean islands.
Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is the most effective and widely accepted nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission reduction technology. The process uses ammonia as a selective reducing agent. In the presence of a catalyst, the ammonia reduces the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gasses to inert nitrogen gas and water vapour.
Commenting on the collaboration, Halyard Managing Director Richard Summers said, “We are delighted to be working closely with Emigreen B.V. We will be sharing our extensive expertise and experience to deliver high-quality bespoke exhaust and aftertreatment solutions that meet the design requirements of superyacht builders, boatyards and naval architects and ensure compliance with emission regulations.”
Emigreen Managing Director Niko Dalpis echoed the sentiment, “Halyard’s expertise and many years of experience will allow us to concentrate on what we do best – which is applying the latest state-of-the-art technology to create innovative high-end exhaust aftertreatment solutions.”
Emigreen B.V. supplies and supports products and services designed to control exhaust emissions from heavy duty diesel engines.
Halyard is the only company in the world that can manufacture an entire exhaust solution from ‘turbo to transom’ in-house, providing service and support throughout the design, manufacture and installation process, through to the final sea trials.
